Our Spell Words with Open and Closed Syllables lesson plan teaches students about open and closed syllables and how to recognize common syllables and syllable patterns in words. During this lesson, students are asked to work collaboratively with a partner to read words from a given word list aloud and then break them into their syllables and write them down. Students are also asked to read a given story, write down the underlined words, and then break those words into their syllables, demonstrating their understanding of the lesson material.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to recognize common syllables in words and apply syllable patterns to decode unfamiliar words and will be able to identify common syllable types and patterns.
