Our Contractions lesson plan teaches students how contractions are formed, how to recognize them, and when to use them. This lesson includes worksheets and movement activities to engage students fully. In addition to an initial group activity, students are asked to work collaboratively to identify places in a story where contractions could be made. They are also asked to work independently to rewrite contractions as their two-word pairs and answer questions about the rules for creating and using contractions.

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to correctly and independently use contractions in writing. Students will also be able to identify and apply the rule to change two words into a contraction where applicable.
