Description

Our Categorizing Words lesson plan teaches students the basics of categorization, how to explain the different properties of objects, how to create their own categories, and more. Students will practice categorizing objects with a group activity in which they are asked to categorize books that they are familiar with as a class. They will also be asked to use their critical thinking skills to determine which objects belong and don’t belong in specific categories.

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to sort items into simple groups based on traits, categorize similar items in several ways, explain why items are grouped together, and create their own categories for a given group of objects.
