Description
Our Standard English Variations lesson plan teaches students about some standard English variations and how to recognize and use them. During this lesson, students are asked to work with a partner to choose a separate topic from a given list and write a 5 to 7 sentence paragraph related to the topic, with one partner writing using informal written language and the other using conventional language; once completed, the students exchange the paragraphs and rewrite each other’s paragraphs using the opposite language type. Students are also asked to decide which in a list of given sentences use conventional language rules.Â
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to recognize variations from standard English in their own and others’ writing and speaking and identify and use strategies to improve expression in conventional language.
