Our Understanding Details lesson plan develops reading comprehension and critical thinking skills in young students and teaches them about the 5 questions and how they are used to extract details from a story. During this lesson, students are asked to match each of the five “W” questions with statements that answer those questions. Students are also asked to read a provided story and answer the five “W” questions to extract the details from the story.

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify the details of a story by using the 5 (who, what, where, when, why) questions to understand the information presented in a story and other content.
