Description

Our Identifying Authors’ Reasons lesson plan teaches students how to identify an author’s main topics, supporting points, and conclusion. During this lesson, students are asked to work collaboratively with a partner to create instructions for a task of their choosing, complete with both text and illustrations. Students are also asked to read a paragraph and identify the main idea, supporting details, and wrap-up, demonstrating their understanding of these parts, and then write their own informative paragraph.

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to explain how an author gives supports to his/her points, determine what facts and details are relevant to a topic, and compose an informative paragraph about a single topic.
