Our Basic Features of Print lesson plan helps students understand the basic features of print, such as a sentence, which has a capitalized first word and ending punctuation. The lesson is not a writing lesson but should be used to help students read sentences smoothly as they recognize the start and end of a sentence. During this lesson, students are asked to create sentences out of cut out words, using punctuation and capitalization correctly. Students are also asked to identify correctly written sentences and rearrange words to make a correct sentence.

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to demonstrate the understanding of the organization and basic features of print and recognize the distinguishing features of a sentence.
