Description
Our Counting Forward and Backward lesson plan introduces young students to counting forwards and backwards for the first time. The lesson includes a hundreds chart which students may use as a reference to help determine which number comes next as they attempt to count forwards or backwards starting at a number other than one. During this lesson, students are asked to participate in a group activity in which they draw number lines based on a number chosen by the teacher (for example, if the teacher chose the number 10, they would draw a number line going 5 numbers forward and backward from 10). Students are also asked to fill in missing numbers on a number line.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to count forward and backward within the range of 120.
