What our Alphabet: Letter J lesson plan includes

Lesson Objectives and Overview: Alphabet: Letter J teaches young learners about the tenth letter of the alphabet. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to recognize the uppercase and lowercase letter J and name at least two words that begin with J. This lesson is for students in preschool.

JELLYBEAN J ACTIVITY

For the activity, students will make “jellybeans” on the outlined uppercase J. Demonstrate how to lightly press the tip of one finger on the stamp pad and onto the paper to make an oval print. Have students use a baby wipe or a wet paper towel to clean their fingers in between colors. Help students to create their own jellybean J by stamping their fingers on the ink pad and then on their paper. Let dry and display.

Options and Extensions

There are lots of additional options you could add to the lesson. Sing and dance to the “Jumping Jellybean” song. Read the nursery rhymes “Jack and Jill” and “Jack be Nimble.” Make a list of all the J names that you hear. Then make a list of students in the class with names that start with J. For added fun, bring in jellybeans for students to try. Students can sort them by color for a math extension or use them to make a letter J or just eat them.
