Description

What our Alphabet: Letter P lesson plan includes

Lesson Objectives and Overview: Alphabet: Letter P teaches young learners about the sixteenth letter of the alphabet. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to recognize the uppercase and lowercase letter P and name at least two words that begin with P. This lesson is for students in preschool.

PLAYDOUGH PRESENTS ACTIVITY

For this activity, students will use playdough to create birthday presents for Pig’s P party. There is a recipe at the bottom of the worksheet page for easy homemade playdough.

Options and Extensions

There are several additional options you could do to add to the lesson. One is to bring popcorn, pretzels, or Popsicles for a P-themed snack. Another option is to have a P dress-up day. Students can dress as anything beginning with P: princess, pirate, pig, painter, panda, police officer, pilot, etc. For a sensory experience, another idea is to get a sheet of bubble wrap and draw an uppercase and lowercase P on it. Have students pop the bubble wrap Pp while saying /p/-pop-/p/! One more option is to play “Hot Potato” (using a fake potato or rolled-up sock). Sit in a circle and play music. Have students pass the “potato” until the music suddenly stops. The student holding the potato must think of a word that begins with P.

As an extension to the lesson, read If You Give a Pig a Party by Laura Numeroff, I am Invited to a Party by Mo Willems, If You Give a Pig a Pancake by Laura Numeroff, and The Pigeon Wants a Puppy by Mo Willems.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

Our preschool lessons include additional resources that you can use throughout the lesson. They are provided to give you as much content as possible to complete the lesson without their having to find sources on their own. For instance, if the lesson requires you to show students pictures, you can use the ones in the additional resources.
