Description
What our Alphabet: Letter L lesson plan includes
Lesson Objectives and Overview: Alphabet: Letter L teaches young learners about the twelfth letter of the alphabet. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to recognize the uppercase and lowercase letter L and name at least two words that begin with L. This lesson is for students in preschool.
LEMON PRINTS ACTIVITY
For the activity, students will use lemons and yellow paint to create lemony works of art! They will dip the open side of half a lemon in paint and press the lemons against the Ll outlines. If you choose to read The Red Lemon by Bob Staake, have students stamp their lemon papers with a red lemon (lemon in red paint).
Options and Extensions
There are several options for this lesson. If LEGO® are available, have students construct an uppercase and lowercase L using the blocks. Make lemonade as a class. Play a clip of the Sesame Street song, “La La La.” Cut out a large letter L out of sturdy paper or cardboard, and punch holes around the perimeter. Have students lace yarn or string through the holes.
As an extension to the lesson, read The Red Lemon by Bob Staake, Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney, Leopold the Lion by Denise Brennan-Nelson, and My “L” Book by Jane Belk Moncure.
ADDITIONAL RESOURCES
Our preschool lessons include additional resources that you can use throughout the lesson. They are provided to give you as much content as possible to complete the lesson without their having to find sources on their own. For instance, if the lesson requires you to show students pictures, you can use the ones in the additional resources.
Preschool Philosophy
Our preschool curriculum is thoughtfully designed by professional teachers to nurture curiosity, build foundational skills, and prepare young learners for kindergarten and beyond. Each preschool lesson plan offers age-appropriate activities to promote early literacy, math readiness, creativity, and social-emotional growth.
At the preschool level, children are developing rapidly—socially, emotionally, physically, and academically. The goal of our lesson plans for preschool is to provide structured yet engaging learning experiences that spark imagination, encourage problem-solving, and foster a lifelong love of learning.
