Description
What our Alphabet: Letter M lesson plan includes
Lesson Objectives and Overview: Alphabet: Letter M teaches young learners about the thirteenth letter of the alphabet. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to recognize the uppercase and lowercase letter M and name at least two words that begin with M. This lesson is for students in preschool.
FEED MORRIS THE MOOSE ACTIVITY
For the activity, you will print out pictures of a moose and pictures of foods that start with the letter M. Give a copy to each student, and have one for yourself. Hold up the moose picture and say, “I am going to feed him a muffin.” Pretend to feed the moose a muffin. Glue or tape the picture of a muffin to the moose while making the /m/ sound. Do the same with students as they feed other foods to their moose. Help them glue or tape the foods to the moose picture and display them in the classroom. Optionally, have students color their moose at the start of the activity. For more hands-on fun, gather play or real M foods to feed Morris.
Options and Extensions
As an extension to the lesson, read If You Give a Moose a Muffin by Laura Numeroff.
ADDITIONAL RESOURCES
Our preschool lessons include additional resources that you can use throughout the lesson. They are provided to give you as much content as possible to complete the lesson without their having to find sources on their own. For instance, if the lesson requires you to show students pictures, you can use the ones in the additional resources.
Preschool Philosophy
Our preschool curriculum is thoughtfully designed by professional teachers to nurture curiosity, build foundational skills, and prepare young learners for kindergarten and beyond. Each preschool lesson plan offers age-appropriate activities to promote early literacy, math readiness, creativity, and social-emotional growth.
At the preschool level, children are developing rapidly—socially, emotionally, physically, and academically. The goal of our lesson plans for preschool is to provide structured yet engaging learning experiences that spark imagination, encourage problem-solving, and foster a lifelong love of learning.
