Understanding Dialogue

$1.95

In our Understanding Dialogue lesson plan, students develop a deeper understanding of dialogue, including how to identify it, why it’s used, and how to interpret it. Students also practice extracting information about characters, settings, and themes from dialogue.

Description

Our Understanding Dialogue lesson plan introduces students to the use of dialogue in stories, how to write dialogue, and how to interpret dialogue. Strengthen reading comprehension as your students understand that the words a character speaks in a story may be used to help interpret the character’s thoughts and feelings. During this lesson, students are asked to work with a partner to rewrite a story with dialogue, testing their ability to write believable dialogue that fits the tone of the story. Students are also asked to discern characteristics about a character from lines of dialogue.

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify and understand dialogue in text, use it to describe a character’s thoughts and feelings, and write dialogue to enhance their story writing.
