Description
Our Find Synonyms/Antonyms in Context lesson plan teaches students about synonyms and antonyms and how they can be used to change the meaning of writing. During this lesson, students are asked to work collaboratively with a partner to determine the shades of meaning in a group of words (“knew,” “believed,” “suspected,” “heard,” and “wondered”) and place them in an order they believe makes sense, writing a sentence for each word that makes the specific meaning clear. Students are also asked to read two sentences that include antonyms, create illustrations that show the difference in meaning, and then create their own sentence pairs that include antonyms with illustrations.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to differentiate between shades of meaning amongst synonyms and identify antonyms and explain how they change the meaning.
