Description
Our Speaking and Listening Respectfully lesson plan teaches students how to have a proper and respectful discussion. During this lesson, students are asked to complete a group activity in which they choose one of a list of given case studies for your discussion, review the Discussion Rules and Discussion Group Jobs list, and any other discussion rules your teacher has. They then use a given form to organize their group and record their discussion, then share your case study with the class and what their group discussed. Students are also asked to read given scenarios and determine the rule or rules that, if used, would have prevented the problem in the scenario.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to follow agreed-upon rules for discussions (e.g., gaining the floor in respectful ways, listening to others with care, speaking one at a time about the topics and texts under discussion).
