In our Plantations lesson plan, students learn what plantations were, how they contributed to the slave trade in the U.S., and their lasting legacy.

Our Plantations lesson plan introduces students to plantations and those who were part of the community, such as the owners, slaves, and community groups. Most students are aware of plantations and the conditions slaves endured while working on them. During this lesson, students are asked to match statements to the correct plantation persons in order to demonstrate their understanding of the different roles people played on a plantation. Students are also asked to match terms with their correct definitions in order to demonstrate their understanding of the lesson vocabulary.

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to define plantation and describe life on a plantation for several groups of people, including slaves, owners, and others.

    I am starting my first

I am starting my first year of teaching and I am feeling overwhelmed by all the different curriculum. When I stumbled onto Clarendon Learning I felt a wave of relief. I now had a base to work from in creating lesson plans to fit my needs. I haven't taught any of the lessons, yet, but I know that I now have some tools in my pocket that I will be able to use. Thank you for having these lesson plans available.
