Our Simple Machines lesson plan gives students a more in-depth look at simple machines and the work they do. During this lesson, students are asked to work collaboratively, with a partner, to create an example of certain types of simple machines using materials given to them by their teacher; they are then asked to sketch it and write an explanation for how it works and then present it to the class, sharpening their public speaking and presentation skills. Students are also asked to match simple machines with their descriptions.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to define simple machines, identify the six types of simple machines, and use the correct terminology to describe how each simple machine works, and explain how simple machines make work easier.
