Our Microbes lesson plan introduces students to microorganisms, which are also known as microbes. Most students are used to seeing the living organisms, such as the typical plant or animal, that they can see with the naked eye. However, students will become fascinated when viewing single-celled organisms under a microscope (if available, highly recommended) or by use of one of the video resources. During this lesson, students are asked to practice using a microscope and drawing what they see, answer questions about what they see, and work collaboratively with a group to discuss it and how they can connect it to the lesson material. Students are also asked to match given facts to the correct type of microbe, demonstrating their understanding of the lesson.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to define microbes, identify different types, and compare good and bad microbes.
