Our Understanding Through Illustrations lesson plan teaches students strategies for gaining information from illustrations about plot, character, and more. During this lesson, students are asked to work collaboratively with a partner to match paragraphs with the illustrations, demonstrating their ability to identify key information in both text and illustrations. Students are also asked to read a story and look at its accompanying illustrations and then answer questions about the story, indicating whether the answers to those questions are based on the illustrations, the text, or both.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to use information gained from the illustrations and words in a print or digital text to demonstrate an understanding of its characters, setting, or plot.
