Description
Our Themes and Central Ideas lesson plan teaches students how to recognize themes and central ideas in writing and why it’s important to be able to do so. During this lesson, students are asked to differentiate between themes and central ideas and what they mean, demonstrating their understanding of the lesson vocabulary. Students are also asked to read passages and answer questions about them to help them determine the themes and central ideas of the passages.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to determine a theme or central idea of a text and how it is conveyed through particular details as well as provide a summary of the text distinct from personal opinions or judgments.
