Short /o/ Words with Pictures

With our Short /o/ Words with Pictures lesson plan, students learn to identify and sort words with short /o/ vowel sounds. Students also learn vocabulary words that have a short /o/ sound in them.

Our Short /o/ Words with Pictures lesson plan teaches students about the short /o/ sound in words, including how to identify it and some words that have it. During this lesson, students are asked to sort words with short /o/ sounds into different syllable categories (-ox words vs. -ot words, for example). Students are also asked to match the words with their corresponding picture in order to solidify their understanding of the lesson vocabulary.

At the end of the lesson, students will be also to notice parts, or patterns, in words and will be able to use the short /o/ pattern to help read a word.
