Description
Our Patterns of Events lesson plan introduces students to the concept that several types of literature follow well-known patterns. Identifying the patterns will help students understand the story they are reading and draw connections to other pieces of literature. During this lesson, students are asked to read a provided text and identify specific patterns, using guided prompts and questions to help them. Students are also asked to choose a genre and write a story in that genre that uses the patterns typically found in that genre, strengthening their writing skills and demonstrating their ability to apply the lesson material to their own writing.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify the purpose of patterns of events in certain genres in literature. Students will also have learned certain patterns for those genres, how to identify them and how to create patterns in their own writing in examples of the genre.
