MYTHOLOGY: THESEUS LESSON PLAN CONTENT PAGES

The Mythology: Theseus lesson plan contains two content pages. In this ancient Greek myth, the courageous prince Theseus set out to end a terrible tradition enforced by King Minos, who demanded yearly sacrifices of Athenian youths to the monstrous Minotaur. Determined to save his people, Theseus volunteered to enter the deadly labyrinth where the beast dwelled. With the secret help of Princess Ariadne, who gave him a glowing thread to retrace his steps, Theseus braved the maze’s dangers, outsmarted its traps, and ultimately defeated the Minotaur in fierce combat. He followed the thread back to safety and returned a hero, freeing Athens from its grim fate and earning his place as one of Greece’s greatest legendary figures.

MYTHOLOGY: THESEUS LESSON PLAN WORKSHEETS

The Mythology: Theseus lesson plan includes two worksheets: an activity worksheet and a practice worksheet. Each one will help students solidify their grasp of the material they learned throughout the lesson. You can refer to the classroom procedure guidelines to know when to hand out each worksheet.

LEGENDARY CREATURE ACTIVITY WORKSHEET

Students will get to try their hand at creating a legendary and mythological creature to protect the labyrinth. The creature must have at least one human characteristic. For example, the Minotaur had the head and tail of a bull, but the rest of the body was human. Students will sketch their creature in the box on the worksheet page beforehand.

MYTHOLOGY: THESEUS PRACTICE WORKSHEET

The practice worksheet requires students to answer a series of 10 questions. These questions all relate to the content pages, so students will need to refer to them often for the answers. In addition, each question provides which reading tool the question corresponds to, such as text feature, vocabulary, or comprehension.

Worksheet Answer Keys

At the end of the lesson plan document is an answer key for the practice worksheet. The correct answers are all in red to make it easier for you to compare them with students’ responses. If you choose to administer the lesson pages to your students via PDF, you will need to save a new file that omits these pages. Otherwise, you can simply print out the applicable pages and keep these as reference for yourself when grading assignments.
