It explains that you can teach this lesson in a whole-class setting or as an independent, small-group activity. You can use the blank lines to record any thoughts or ideas you have as you prepare.
MYTHOLOGY: POSEIDON LESSON PLAN CONTENT PAGES
The Mythology: Poseidon lesson plan contains two content pages. In this myth set in ancient Greece, Poseidon, the mighty god of the sea, learned that the fearsome Chimera was wreaking havoc on land with its lion’s body, goat’s head, snake-headed tail, and fiery breath. Determined to protect the innocent, Poseidon rose from the ocean and confronted the beast in a dramatic battle on a mountain. Using his trident and command over water, he summoned waves, storms, and waterfalls to weaken the Chimera before ultimately trapping it in a powerful whirlpool and hurling it deep into the sea. Grateful villagers celebrated his victory and built a temple in his honor, while the Chimera never dared to return to Poseidon’s domain.
MYTHOLOGY: POSEIDON LESSON PLAN WORKSHEETS
The Mythology: Poseidon lesson plan includes three worksheets: two activity worksheets and a practice worksheet. Each one will help students solidify their grasp of the material they learned throughout the lesson. You can refer to the classroom procedure guidelines to know when to hand out each worksheet.
ILLUSTRATE THE STORY ACTIVITY WORKSHEET
Students will think about the moment in the story they found most exciting or memorable. They will choose that moment to draw out. They will include characters, the setting, and some action. Then they will draw it on poster board. After the finish their artwork, they will answer the questions at the bottom of the worksheet.
COMPARE AND CONTRAST ACTIVITY WORKSHEET
For the second activity, students will compare Poseidon to Aquaman. They will write how the two characters are similar in the top box and how they are different in the bottom two boxes.
MYTHOLOGY: POSEIDON PRACTICE WORKSHEET
The practice worksheet requires students to answer a series of 10 questions. These questions all relate to the content pages, so students will need to refer to them often for the answers. In addition, each question provides which reading tool the question corresponds to, such as text feature, vocabulary, or comprehension.
Worksheet Answer Keys
At the end of the lesson plan document is an answer key for the practice worksheet. The correct answers are all in red to make it easier for you to compare them with students’ responses. If you choose to administer the lesson pages to your students via PDF, you will need to save a new file that omits these pages. Otherwise, you can simply print out the applicable pages and keep these as reference for yourself when grading assignments.
