Description

Our Identifying Inconsistent Spelling/Sounds lesson plan introduces students to several types of inconsistencies in the spelling and pronunciations of many words they read each day. They include words with silent letters, word endings, diphthongs, variant vowels, hard and soft g/c, and homophones. During this lesson, students are asked to work collaboratively and use their creativity in order to create a poster which includes a section for each of the sound/spelling inconsistencies. Students are also asked to independently complete a number of activities to test their knowledge and understanding of the concepts presented in this lesson.

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify words with inconsistent but common spelling-sound correspondences.
