Description
Our Ask/Answer Questions for Explicit Understanding lesson plan teaches students how to read with an eye towards understanding as well as how to ask questions that will enhance their understanding. During this lesson, students are asked to work collaboratively with a partner to read a short story and come up with 10 questions about the story for other students in the class to answer; they also answer questions about the overall story. Students are also asked to read a longer story on their own and answer questions about it, citing specific paragraphs or lines.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers.
