Description
Our Simple Equivalent Fractions lesson plan teaches students the basics of equivalent fractions and how to recognize them. During this lesson, students are asked to shade diagrams of circles cut into different numbers of pieces to illustrate that they are equivalent fractions (for example, they would shade one piece of a circle cut into two pieces and two pieces of a circle cut into four pieces, representing that 1/2 and 2/4 are equivalent). Students are also asked to come up with their own sets of equivalent fractions and write out how they know that they are equivalent.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to recognize and create simple equivalent fractions.
