Description

Our Properties of Figures lesson plan introduces students to the variety of ways in which shapes and figures can be classified. For example, triangles can be classified by angles or by sides. Vocabulary relevant to figure classification is included in the lesson, such as scalene and rectangle, along with many others. Students are asked to play a game in which they identify the “mystery figure” from a written description and then draw the figure. Students are also asked to answer questions about various shapes and figures in order to test their understanding.

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to understand attributes belonging to a category of two-dimensional figures also belong to all subcategories of that category. Students will be able to classify two-dimensional figures in a hierarchy based on properties.
