Description
Our Measuring Numerical Data lesson plan teaches students about a number of ways to measure numerical data, such as mean, median, mode, and more. During this lesson, students are asked to complete an activity in which they’re asked to count the number of letters in your first and last name and record the data in a chart below, then find 9 classmates and record the number of letters in their names; they then find the mean, median, mode, range, and interquartile range of their data set. Students are also asked to look at various charts and figures and answer numerical data questions about them.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to recognize that a measure of center summarizes all of its values with a single number while a measure of variation describes how the values vary with a single number.
