Our Make a Number with Addition lesson plan directs students to determine how many different ways numbers can be added together to reach the same sum (for example, 1+5=6 and 2+4=6). During this lesson, students are asked to complete an interactive activity in which they use blocks to add numbers together in different ways. Students are also asked to come up with different ways to reach a given sum, testing their understanding and ability to make a number by addition in different ways.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to create multiple addition sentences for a single number.
