Description
Our Interpreting Multiplication lesson plan teaches students about multiplication beyond the multiplication facts, including how to conceptualize it and how to compare one problem to another. During this lesson, students are asked to create their own word problems that require multiplication to solve, using their creative writing and critical thinking skills. Students are also asked to write equations to solve given word problems.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to interpret a multiplication equation as a comparison; represent verbal statements of multiplicative comparisons as multiplication equations.
