Our Equations with Independent and Dependent Variables lesson plan teaches students how to create tables and equations using variables. During this lesson, students are asked to work collaboratively to choose a topic, determine the independent and dependent variables for that topic, create a table for the two variables, write an equation for their table, and finally create 4 questions about their table: 2 solving for the independent variable and 2 solving for the dependent variable. Students are also asked to solve problems in which they have to create an equation and table and then use them to answer questions.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to use variables to represent two quantities in a real-world problem that change in relationship to one another as well as create a table and an equation for the situation.
