Our Decimals Expanded Form lesson plan introduces students to writing decimals in expanded form. Expanded form is reviewed at the beginning of the lesson and an illustration is included showing the name of each place value. During this lesson, students are asked to participate in a fun activity in which they have to move around their classroom and get a different classmate to expand each decimal in a provided list, while also expanding other students’ decimals as well. Students are also asked to work individually to practice writing decimals in expanded form, demonstrating their understanding of the lesson material.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to write decimals through the hundredths place in expanded and standard form.
