Our Coordinate Planes lesson plan introduces graphing and coordinate planes. During this lesson, students are asked to play a modified version of the game “Battleship” with a partner in which they plot their “dinosaurs” on a graph and take turns guessing the coordinates of the other player’s “dinosaurs”. Students are also asked to answer questions about coordinate planes in order to test their understanding.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify the quadrants of a coordinate plane and the location of the x-axis, y-axis, and origin. They will also be able to graph points in all 4 quadrants.
