Description
Our Area and Perimeter Word Problems lesson plan teaches students strategies for solving word problems that include area and perimeter.
During this lesson, students are asked to work with a partner to cut squares out of a piece of paper to create rectangles with different perimeters but the same areas, squares and rectangles with the same or different areas/perimeters, and rectangles with the same perimeters but different areas. Students are also asked to create a Real-World Word Problem for another pair of students to solve, including the answer and the steps to solve the problem.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to solve real-world and mathematical problems involving perimeters of polygons, find unknown sides, and recognize rectangles with different perimeters/areas.
