Our Similes and Metaphors lesson plan teaches students about similes and metaphors, including what they are and how and when they are used. Students practice defining and using similes and metaphors correctly in order to improve their writing and reading comprehension skills.

Description

Our Similes and Metaphors lesson plan introduces students to similes and metaphors; a language device students use often without realizing it. Students are asked to work collaboratively choose classroom items and write both a simile and a metaphor for each, and then use their public speaking skills to present them to the class. Students are also asked to work individually to identify whether sentences contain a simile or metaphor.

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to define, identify and correctly use similes and metaphors.
