Description
Our Precise Word Choice lesson plan for grades 4-6 enables students to be more deliberate in their word choice when writing. Students will come to grasp the subtleties of language more effectively and be aware of the nuance that authors create with their word choice. In this lesson, students are asked to work collaboratively to come up with more precise words that could replace nonspecific words in given sentences. Students are also asked to work independently and use their creative writing skills to write a short story with weak word choices and then rewrite the same story with more precise language.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to replace nonspecific words with precise words, will have revised writing to add more precise words, and will have identified a purpose for using precise word choice.
