Introduction to Commas

Our Introduction to Commas lesson plan teaches students what commas are and how to use them correctly in their writing. Students learn how to use commas in dates, series, greetings, letter closings, addresses, and dialogue.

Our Introduction to Commas lesson plan introduces students to the proper use of commas in writing. They learn how to use commas in a variety of contexts and for a variety of purposes, as well as when not to use commas. Students are asked to work collaboratively on an activity in which they create sentences that use commas and share them with the class. Students are also asked to demonstrate their understanding of comma placement by completing exercises in which they insert commas into existing sentences and write out the comma rule for example sentences.

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to define comma, and correctly use commas in dates, series, greetings, letter closings, addresses, and dialogue.

    Good Lesson

This was a good lesson. I liked how the notes section was laid out. I use it as a reference sheet for my students since they are older and we go over each part. Creating their own sentences is still a struggle for my students who are middle school and junior high special education students.
