Our Greek/Latin Affixes and Roots lesson plan introduces students to Greek and Latin prefixes, suffixes, and root words, which make up a large part of the English language. Students are asked to work collaboratively in order to complete an activity in which they create words using their own roots, suffixes, and prefixes. Students will also work independently to identify words with Greek and Latin roots in given sentences and complete a number of other activities to test their understanding.

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify and use Greek and Latin affixes and roots, using their knowledge to define unknown words and increase their vocabulary.

    Very Helpful Content

Excellent. Provided context to my middle school students answering the question "Why?" we are learning about Greek and Latin Roots, Prefixes, and Suffixes. Allowed them to get to the learning immediately. Very helpful.

Great product! Used in my word work rotation during literacy rotations and also used the worksheet for independent work. Nice packet for a quick lesson!

I loved this lesson plan, I was required to complete a mini-unit ELA plan for a fifth grade student and this lesson plan really clicked with her. I of course adapted it a bit to fit in with the rest of the unit, however, the accompanying materials and resources proved invaluable! I would definitely recommend Clarendon Learning to all of my peers and fellow colleagues!
