Description
What our Weather: Windy lesson plan includes
Lesson Objectives and Overview: Weather: Windy teaches young learners about this whooshing phenomenon. By the end of the lesson, students will recognize signs of windy weather and describe what happens to objects when the wind blows. This lesson is for students in preschool.
WIND PAINT ACTIVITY
For this activity, students use straws and paint to make windy works of art! Explain how to complete the activity by dropping blobs of different colored paints on the paper and blowing them with a straw. Make sure students know not to touch the paints with the end of the straw but to blow from varying distances.
Options and Extensions
One option for this lesson is to bring a windsock (or have students create their own using toilet paper, tubes, and streamers or ribbon). Hang it outside and have students observe it every day to see if it is windy. As an extension to the lesson, read Gilberto and the Wind by Marie Hall Ets. Discuss how Gilberto interacts with the wind.
ADDITIONAL RESOURCES
Our preschool lessons include additional resources that you can use throughout the lesson. They are provided to give you as much content as possible to complete the lesson without their having to find sources on their own. For instance, if the lesson requires you to show students pictures, you can use the ones in the additional resources.
Preschool Philosophy
Our preschool curriculum is thoughtfully designed by professional teachers to nurture curiosity, build foundational skills, and prepare young learners for kindergarten and beyond. Each preschool lesson plan offers age-appropriate activities to promote early literacy, math readiness, creativity, and social-emotional growth.
At the preschool level, children are developing rapidly—socially, emotionally, physically, and academically. The goal of our lesson plans for preschool is to provide structured yet engaging learning experiences that spark imagination, encourage problem-solving, and foster a lifelong love of learning.
