What our Weather: Rainy lesson plan includes
Lesson Objectives and Overview: Weather: Rainy teaches young learners about rainy weather. By the end of the lesson, students will recognize signs of rainy weather and describe how it affects what we see, feel, and do. This lesson is for students in preschool.
RAIN STICKS ACTIVITY
For this activity, students will build rain sticks using the materials you provide. You will need to prep for part of the activity (see Classroom Procedure). Once completed, allow students to shake their rain sticks and listen to the sound of rain. Sing songs about rain while students dance and shake their rain stick to the rhythm.
Options and Extensions
One option for this lesson is to For gross motor movement, lay blue pieces of felt (or paper as long as it is secure) on the ground. Have students pretend that the felt/paper are puddles and jump from one puddle to the next. (OPTIONAL: Cut material into round, wavy shapes for maximum fun!)
As an extension to the lesson, read One Rainy Day by Tammi Salzano, Raindrop, Plop! by Wendy Cheyette Lewison, and The Little Raindrop by Joanna Gray.
ADDITIONAL RESOURCES
Our preschool lessons include additional resources that you can use throughout the lesson. They are provided to give you as much content as possible to complete the lesson without their having to find sources on their own. For instance, if the lesson requires you to show students pictures, you can use the ones in the additional resources.
Preschool Philosophy
Our preschool curriculum is thoughtfully designed by professional teachers to nurture curiosity, build foundational skills, and prepare young learners for kindergarten and beyond. Each preschool lesson plan offers age-appropriate activities to promote early literacy, math readiness, creativity, and social-emotional growth.
At the preschool level, children are developing rapidly—socially, emotionally, physically, and academically. The goal of our lesson plans for preschool is to provide structured yet engaging learning experiences that spark imagination, encourage problem-solving, and foster a lifelong love of learning.
